This silicone dish drying mat is perfect for your kitchen at home, on the boat, in the RV or at the camp. Its extra large size is perfect for accommodating a sink full of dishes, holding large pots and pans, or more than a dozen glasses. With the added bonus feature of being a trivet, it allows your valuable counter real estate to serve double duty, protecting expensive counters and tabletops from heat and water damage.
You can dry your dishes and use the mat to put hot dishes on. Also great to use in the bottom of porcelain sinks, protecting your dishes from breaking on the hard surface; or to have near your smoker or BBQ. Tortuga is an American owned small family business.
KEY FEATURES:
-Extra large mat 17.75" x 15.75" made of food-grade silicone. Accommodates a sink full of dishes, large pots and pans, more than a dozen glasses.
-Mat thickness and silicone material provides the perfect place to safely put hot dishes, protecting your counter tops and tabletops.
-Extra wide drying wells allows for quick drying, excellent aeration, and easy clean-up.
-Cleaning of the mat is easy. Either wipe it down or put it in the dishwasher.
-Rolls up or hangs for easy storage and neutral color looks great with any kitchen decor.
I bought a couple of Good Grips large silicone drying mats over a year ago and found them to be very useful. I put one on top of a counter top microwave for placing items that were not quite dry and the other directly on the counter for convenience in placing hot pots.
Recently I realized that having silicone mats next to my sink would help to keep annoying faucet splashes from dripping off of the counter onto the cabinet or floor. I saw that these Tortuga mats were slightly bigger and decided to give them a try.
Although the Tortuga mats are larger, the size difference isn’t really that dramatic nor is there much variation in the weight. What is different is the spacing and depth of the ridges on the mats. The OXO ridges are both deeper and closer together. I wasn’t sure what difference that would make but after using them for a while, I found that the flatter and wider ridges on the Tortuga mats make them easier for me to clean.
This is especially noticeable when I spill something that I just want to clean up with a paper towel. Although they both can go into the dishwasher, sometimes a quick wipe up is all that is needed. The Tortuga mats are easier to clean that way. The other mats require a bit more detailed scrubbing to get the spill from between the ridges.
The Tortuga mats are a slightly lighter color of gray but, other than that, they really are comparable and both brands do the job of catching drips, providing a soft surface for crystal glasses, etc. as well as acting as a trivet for hot dishes.
